Play+Design=Learning builds on my PhD research at the University of Edinburgh on Design for Outdoor Learning in Bangladeshi Elementary Schools and aims at engaging children in hands on learning through engaging in design of landscape. We worked with children in a co-design workshop for coming up with ideas for the redesign of the courtyard at the heart of the Edinburgh College of Art campus. We planned a day of inter-related activities, including an ice-breaker craft activity, an accompanied walk-along audit of the college grounds, a re-design of the outdoor space using drawing and modelling, and plenty of group discussion and presentation. The project was funded by the Innovative Learning Week fund from the University of Edinburgh.
